In short

Ganesh Chaturthi 2027 is on Saturday, 4 September 2027, and Ganesh Chaturthi 2026 on Monday, 14 September 2026, by Astrojar's Panchang engine for New Delhi. Ganesh Chaturthi, also called Vinayaka Chavithi, is Shukla Chaturthi of Bhadrapada (August or September). The Ganesha murti is installed and worshipped at midday.

Ganesh Chaturthi dates for 2026 and 2027

How the date of Ganesh Chaturthi is fixed

The day is the one on which Chaturthi covers madhyahna, the third of the day's five parts. The sthapana and puja are done in madhyahna while Chaturthi lasts.

Why Ganesh Chaturthi can differ by place and tradition

Seeing the Moon on this Chaturthi is traditionally avoided. Ganeshotsav lasts ten days to Anant Chaturdashi in Maharashtra and many other places; families also immerse the murti after one and a half, three, five or seven days.

Sunrise, sunset and moonrise change with the city, so the windows here move for other places. Astrojar's daily Panchang gives them for where you are.

Why is the Moon not seen on Ganesh Chaturthi?

By tradition, seeing the Moon on Bhadrapada Shukla Chaturthi is said to bring false blame (mithya dosha). It is a custom, not something Astrojar measures.

Why do some calendars give a different date for Ganesh Chaturthi?

A panchang is worked out for one place. Where the tithi begins or ends close to the part of the day the rule looks at, a city east or west of New Delhi can land on the other side of the boundary. Calendars also differ in tradition (amanta or purnimanta, Smarta or Vaishnava) and in the ephemeris they use.
