What the 8th house shows, which planet is lord of the 8th house for each Lagna, and how a lord placed in it is read.

The 8th house in astrology (Randhra bhava) shows longevity, battles and enemies, the wealth of the dead (inheritance), and things past and to come (BPHS ch. 11 sl. 9). It is one of the three difficult houses, with the 6th and 12th. The 8th house lord is the planet that owns the sign on the 8th: Mars for an Aries Lagna, Jupiter for Taurus. How is the 8th house read? The classical rules
- Lagna lord in the 8th Physical well-being is reduced (BPHS ch. 12 sl. 1-2).
- 2nd lord in the 8th Finances decline (ch. 13 sl. 1-2).
- 5th lord in the 8th Children come with difficulty (ch. 16 sl. 8).
- 7th lord in the 8th The spouse's health needs care (ch. 18 sl. 2).
- 6th and 8th lords together in the Lagna Ailments, of a kind that follows the planets joining them (ch. 17 sl. 9-12).
One rule never decides a chart on its own: the classical method weighs the house, its lord, the planets in and aspecting it, and the running dasha together.

BPHS gives a chapter (19) of traditional rules on the span of life read from the 8th. Astrojar does not use them to predict anyone's lifespan or death, and no reading should: they are not a medical or actuarial fact. For health, see a doctor.
Does the 8th house show inheritance?
Yes: BPHS lists the wealth of the dead among its significations (ch. 11 sl. 9). Money questions are still read mainly from the 2nd and 11th houses.
Is the 8th house bad?
It is one of the difficult houses: a house lord placed in the 8th weakens that house (BPHS ch. 12, 13, 16 and 18). An empty 8th house is normal and read from its lord (ch. 11 sl. 14-16).
