The 5th house lord in astrology is the planet that owns the sign on the 5th: the Sun for an Aries Lagna, Mercury for Taurus. A 5th lord that is exalted, or joined or aspected by Jupiter, brings children (BPHS ch. 16 sl. 16).

How is the 5th house read? The classical rules
- Lagna and 5th lords in their own signs, angles or trines Happiness through children (BPHS ch. 16 sl. 1-3).
- 5th lord exalted, or joined or aspected by Jupiter Children (ch. 16 sl. 16).
- A strong 5th lord, with Mercury, Jupiter and Venus aspecting the 5th Many children (ch. 16 sl. 12).
- 5th and Lagna lords joined in a good house Children come early, with happiness from them (ch. 16 sl. 1-3).
- 5th lord in the 6th, 8th or 12th, in an enemy's sign or debilitated Children come with difficulty (ch. 16 sl. 8).
