Astrology remedies: Navagraha mantras, charity and gems, chosen from your chart

The remedies Astrojar gives for each of the nine grahas, how it chooses between strengthening and pacifying a planet, and when a gemstone is (and is not) suggested.

In short

Astrology remedies are traditional practices for the nine grahas: chanting a graha's beej mantra, charity on its day, worship of its deity and, only for a planet that is good for your Lagna, its gemstone. Astrojar picks them from your chart: it strengthens a planet that matters for your question and suits your Lagna, and pacifies a difficult one, such as Saturn in Sade Sati, with mantra, charity and worship, never a gem.

Chant the mantra 108 times, especially on the graha's day. The full japa is the count traditionally completed for that graha, often spread over many days. Each graha's page has its deity, temple, yantra, gemstone and Rudraksha.

Strengthen or pacify: how Astrojar chooses

Strengthen a graha that matters for the question and is good for your Lagna, as BPHS ch. 34 lists them: the planets Parashara calls auspicious or Raja-yoga-giving for that Lagna, and the Lagna lord unless he calls it a malefic. Its mantra and yantra are given, and its gemstone may be.

Pacify a graha that is causing difficulty: Saturn during Sade Sati or Ashtama Shani; a running dasha lord that is not good for your Lagna and is weak, or is Saturn, Mars, Rahu or Ketu; or the graha behind an uncancelled dosha, such as Mars for Mangal Dosha. Pacifying uses mantra, charity, worship and a temple visit, never a gemstone.

The same rules run in Astrojar's chat answers and in My remedies in the app, so the website, the answers and the app agree. See doshas in a kundali for the doshas a remedy may answer.

Gemstones

A gemstone strengthens its planet, so it only suits a planet that is good for your Lagna. Astrojar names a gem only then, and only after an astrologer checks your full chart, and after a short trial period. It never suggests one for Rahu or Ketu on its own. Which gem each Lagna may wear, and which to avoid, is in gemstone astrology.

My remedies in the Astrojar app

Sign up and the app's My remedies page works out, for your own chart: your favourable grahas (from BPHS ch. 34), their colours and the directions they rule (BPHS ch. 3), your Ishta devata by Jaimini's rule, up to three gemstones with the stones to avoid, the Rudraksha traditionally paired with each favourable graha, and a mantra to chant with a counter.

Questions about astrology remedies

What are remedies in astrology?

Remedies (upay, parihara) are practices meant to ease a difficult planet or support a helpful one: chanting a graha's mantra, charity on its day, worship of its deity, visiting its temple, and for some charts a gemstone. BPHS prescribes mantra japa, charity and worship; gemstones come from later tradition.

Do astrology remedies work?

Astrojar gives them as traditional practice that supports effort; they do not replace it, and no remedy is promised to change an outcome. Medical, legal and money matters need a professional.

Which remedy is right for me?

It depends on your chart: which planet matters for your question, whether it is good for your Lagna, and which dasha is running. Astrojar chooses from those, so two people with the same question can get different remedies.

Can I wear a gemstone without checking my chart?

No. A gem strengthens a planet, so it only suits a planet that is good for your Lagna. Astrojar names a gem only in that case, and then only after an astrologer checks your full chart, and after a short trial period. It never suggests one for Rahu or Ketu.

Does Astrojar give Lal Kitab remedies?

No. Astrojar's remedies follow the Parashari texts and the usual Navagraha practice; it does not give Lal Kitab remedies or totke.

What are the Navagraha beej mantras?

Each graha has a short seed (beej) mantra, chanted 108 times, especially on its day. The table on this page gives all nine; each graha's page has its japa count, charity, deity and temple.
