Transit chart: planetary transits 2026 to 2028 and how to read them

Where every planet is now and when it changes sign, from Astrojar's engine, and how a transit is read from your Moon sign and Lagna.

In short

A transit chart lays the planets' present positions over your birth chart. On 18 Oct 2026 Jupiter is in Karka (Cancer), Saturn in Meena (Pisces) and Rahu in Kumbha (Aquarius). Each transit is read from your Moon sign and Lagna, with your dasha; the slow planets matter most.

Signs are sidereal (Lahiri ayanamsa); Rahu and Ketu by the true node. Each planet's page has its full list of sign changes and retrogrades to 2028; the Moon's daily transit is on Moon transit.

How a transit is read

A transit (gochara) is a planet's present sign counted from your birth chart. The traditional count is from your Moon sign: Phaladeepika ch. 26 names the good houses for each planet, such as the 2nd, 5th, 7th, 9th and 11th for Jupiter, and the 3rd, 6th and 11th for Saturn, Rahu and Ketu. Astrojar also counts from your Lagna, checks vedha (another planet obstructing a good transit) and the planet's Ashtakavarga bindus in the sign it is crossing, and weighs the slow planets most, because they stay long enough to matter.

A transit shows when; your dasha shows what is promised. Astrojar reads the dasha first and the transits after it, as an astrologer does, so a transit is never read on its own.

Jupiter and Saturn together

When Jupiter and Saturn both touch a house (by sitting in it or aspecting it), its matters tend to come to fruit in a supportive dasha. This double transit is a modern Parashari technique (popularised by K. N. Rao) that Astrojar uses alongside the classical rules.

Questions about planetary transits

What is a transit chart?

The planets' present positions laid over your birth chart, so you can see which house each is passing through, counted from your Moon sign or Lagna.

Which transits matter most?

The slow ones: Saturn (about 2½ years a sign), Jupiter (about a year) and Rahu-Ketu (about 18 months). The Sun, Mercury and Venus move in weeks, the Moon in days.

Why are Vedic transit dates different from Western ones?

Vedic astrology uses the sidereal zodiac, about 24° behind the tropical zodiac, so sign changes fall on different dates; retrogrades are the same.

How does Astrojar use transits?

With your dasha: transits time what the dasha promises. Your answers and reports name the transit and the dates it runs.
