Zodiac sign by date
Sun sign by date of birth: Western and Vedic dates for all 12 signs
Your sun sign for any birthday, in Western (tropical) and Vedic (sidereal) astrology, and why Indian astrology usually asks for your Moon sign instead.
In short
Your sun sign by date of birth is the sign the Sun was in on your birthday. In Western astrology Aries runs from 21 March to 19 April; in Vedic (sidereal) astrology the Sun is in Mesha (Aries) from about 14 Apr to 14 May. The table gives both for every sign. In Indian astrology your rashi usually means your Moon sign, which needs your birth time.

Western astrology uses the tropical zodiac; Vedic astrology uses the sidereal zodiac, about 24° behind it, so the Sun's Vedic sign usually starts about 24 days later than the Western one. The Vedic dates are for 2027 (Dhanu from December 2026); they move by a day or so between years. On the first date of each Vedic range the Sun changes sign during the day: each month's page gives every date and the hour (IST) of the change.
Every date by month: January · February · March · April · May · June · July · August · September · October · November · December.
Sun sign or Moon sign?
When an Indian astrologer asks your rashi, they usually mean your Moon sign, not your sun sign. The Moon changes sign every two and a quarter days, so it needs your birth time as well as your date. See rashi by date of birth for the Moon sign, and Lagna for the rising sign, which needs the exact time.
Your sun sign is still part of your chart: the Sun's sign and house are read in every Vedic chart, alongside the Moon and the Lagna.
Questions about sun signs by date
What is my zodiac sign by date of birth?
Find your birthday in the table: the Western column gives the sun sign used in Western astrology, the Vedic column the Sun's sidereal sign used in Indian astrology.
Why are Vedic and Western sun sign dates different?
Western astrology uses the tropical zodiac; Vedic astrology uses the sidereal zodiac, about 24° behind it, so the Sun's Vedic sign usually starts about 24 days later than the Western one.
Is my rashi the same as my sun sign?
Usually not. In Vedic astrology your rashi is the Moon's sign at birth, which needs the birth time; the sun sign is a different point in the same chart.
What if I was born on the day the sign changes?
Then the hour matters. Each month's page gives the hour (IST) the Sun enters the next sidereal sign; for the Western cusp, the day can move by one between years.
