Medical astrology: how health is read in a kundli

How the tradition reads health from a birth chart: the 1st, 6th and 8th houses, the Sun and the Moon; what Astrojar will say about health, and what it never predicts.

In short

Medical astrology is the traditional reading of health from the birth chart: the 1st house for the body, the 6th for illness and cure, the 8th for long-standing matters, the Sun for vitality and the Moon for the mind. Astrojar uses it only to name periods for recovery or for taking care. It never diagnoses or predicts an illness, an accident or a death, and it is not medical advice.

How health is read in a birth chart

The 1st house and its lord stand for the body and vitality, the 6th for illness and its cure, the 8th for long-standing matters and the 12th for hospitals. The Sun is read for vitality and the Moon for the mind. The table shows what Astrojar says for each: only recovery gets dated windows; an illness or surgery is named only as a period to take care, and an accident is never predicted.

What Astrojar will and will not say

Astrojar answers health questions only as the traditional reading: which periods the texts read as good for recovery, and which as a time to take care. It never diagnoses, names a disease, predicts an illness, an accident or a death, or tells anyone to stop a treatment. Its health answers remind you to follow your doctor's advice.

This page is not medical advice. If you are unwell, see a doctor; in an emergency, call 112.

How sure are the dates?

When you ask "when", the dates come from your Vimshottari dasha: Astrojar scores each Pratyantardasha (the third level of periods, a few months each) for the houses and karakas of the matter, and adds weight when Jupiter and Saturn both transit the main house or its lord (the double transit). Runs of good sub-periods become windows of 6 to 18 months.

Astrojar tests its dates on public figures with recorded birth times, split into two halves so a result has to hold twice. Asked about events still ahead, the dasha windows did no better than chance on that set, so a date for the future is the traditional reading, not a measured forecast. Dates also hold best when the birth time is exact: a few minutes move a sub-period by weeks.

Questions about medical astrology

What is medical astrology?

The traditional reading of health from the birth chart: the 1st house (the body), the 6th (illness), the 8th (chronic matters) and the 12th (hospitals), the Sun and the Moon, and the dasha. It is a tradition, not medicine.

Can astrology predict disease?

Astrojar does not. It never diagnoses, never names a disease and never predicts an illness, an accident or a death. It can name a period the tradition reads as one to take care of your health, and a window for recovery.

Which house is for health in a kundli?

The 1st house and its lord for the body and vitality, the 6th for illness and its cure, the 8th for long-standing matters, and the Sun and the Moon for vitality and mind.

Should I follow astrology instead of my doctor?

No. Follow your doctor. Astrojar's health answers say so too, and nothing on this page is medical advice.
