Career astrology: career prediction by date of birth
How astrology reads work from a birth chart: the 10th house, its lord, the D10 and the dasha; what Astrojar answers about jobs, promotions and business, and what it does not claim.
In short
Career astrology reads work from the 10th house of the birth chart, its lord and the planets in it, with the 6th and 11th houses and the D10 chart. The timing of a job, a promotion or a change comes from the dasha periods linked to those houses. It needs the date, exact time and place of birth. Astrojar gives dated windows as the traditional reading; it does not pick your career.
How career is read in a birth chart
The 10th house is the house of work and standing. Astrojar reads it with its lord, the planets in it, and the 6th (service, competition) and 11th (income) houses; the Sun, Saturn and Mercury are read as karakas. The D10 (dashamsa) is the divisional chart for career.
In KP a job comes when the significators of 2, 6, 10 and 11 run, and 1, 5, 9 and 12 work against it (KP Reader III, pp. 343, 379). A business is read from the 7th, 10th and 11th.
| Event | Houses read | Karakas | KP house group | What Astrojar says |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| First job | 10th, 6th, 2nd, 11th | Saturn, Sun, Mercury | 2, 6, 10, 11 against 1, 5, 9, 12 | Dated windows |
| Government job | 10th, 6th, 11th | Sun, Saturn | 2, 6, 10, 11 against 1, 5, 9, 12 | Dated windows |
| Promotion or a rise in status | 10th, 11th, 6th | Sun, Saturn, Jupiter | 2, 6, 10, 11 against 5, 8, 12 | Dated windows |
| Changing jobs | 10th, 9th, 11th | Saturn, Mercury | 2, 9, 10, 11 against 5, 8, 12 | Dated windows |
| Changing career or industry | 10th, 9th, 7th | Mercury, Rahu | 2, 9, 10, 11 against 5, 8, 12 | Dated windows |
| Starting a business | 7th, 10th, 11th | Mercury, Jupiter | 7, 10, 11, 2 against 5, 8, 12 | Dated windows |
| Losing a job | 10th, 6th, 8th, 12th | Saturn | 5, 9, 8 against 2, 6, 10, 11 | Only as a period to take care |
What Astrojar answers about work
Ask about a job, a promotion, a change, a government exam or a business. The answer weighs the classical rules for the 10th house and its lord, each with its source, gives the dasha windows for a "when" question, and ends with a practical step: for a job change, line up the new offer before you resign.
Astrojar tested whether the chart can name a person's field of work (the 10th lord, the Karmajiva, the D10) on about 2,000 public figures: none did better than chance. So Astrojar answers timing and promise questions, and does not tell you which career to choose.
How sure are the dates?
When you ask "when", the dates come from your Vimshottari dasha: Astrojar scores each Pratyantardasha (the third level of periods, a few months each) for the houses and karakas of the matter, and adds weight when Jupiter and Saturn both transit the main house or its lord (the double transit). Runs of good sub-periods become windows of 6 to 18 months.
Astrojar tests its dates on public figures with recorded birth times, split into two halves so a result has to hold twice. Asked about events still ahead, the dasha windows did no better than chance on that set, so a date for the future is the traditional reading, not a measured forecast. Dates also hold best when the birth time is exact: a few minutes move a sub-period by weeks.
Questions about career astrology
Which house is for career in astrology?
The 10th house, with the 6th (service and competition), the 2nd and the 11th (income). The Sun, Saturn and Mercury are the karakas Astrojar reads for work; the D10 (dashamsa) is the career chart.
Can astrology tell my career field?
The texts link fields to planets (the 10th lord's planet, the Karmajiva). When Astrojar tested this on about 2,000 public figures with recorded birth times, none of these pointers named the real field better than chance, so Astrojar does not pick a career for you.
Can I get a career prediction by date of birth?
Only partly. The 10th house and its lord come from the Lagna, which needs the birth time; with the date alone the houses and dasha dates cannot be fixed.
When will I get a government job?
Astrology reads it from the 10th, 6th and 11th houses with the Sun and Saturn, and times it with the dasha. Astrojar gives the windows for your chart as the traditional reading; preparation decides the exam.
Does Astrojar predict job loss?
No. Losing a job is never predicted as an event; at most Astrojar names a period to take care at work.
